The device continuously monitors CO2 through the skin
Sentec transcutaneous CO 2 monitoring technology surpasses the limitations of SpO 2 , ABG and etCO 2 measurement technology by providing continuous CO 2 monitoring that is easy to use and comfortable for the patient. The device has high precision, regardless of ventilation method or ventilation-perfusion mismatch, product features designed for sleep care.

How does percutaneous monitoring estimate PaCO 2 ?
Transdermal technology heats the skin at the measurement site to a safe temperature to stimulate blood perfusion and gas diffusion through the skin, CO 2 moves through the skin, into the sensor membrane, where a measurable reaction occurs . The algorithm converts data from the skin to estimate PaCO 2 .
Overcome limitations of SpO 2 , eTCO 2 and ABG
Through digital continuous monitoring technology, transdermal monitoring overcomes the shortcomings of other CO 2 monitoring methods:
– Causing pain
– Do not measure continuously
– Problems of breathing gas mixing and ventilation-perfusion mismatch.
Advantages of transcutaneous monitoring
- Compatible with all types of ventilation:
+ Mechanical ventilation
+ Non-invasive including BiPAP, CPAP, RAD, HFNC
+ Breathe naturally
- Accurate despite V/Q mismatch
- Accurate regardless of respiratory rate, tidal volume or gas sample Continuous measurement for patients doing split night studies
- No mask or cannula required (more comfortable sleep).
Advantages of the Sentec device that monitors CO 2 through the skin
- Protects the brain and lungs
Continuously monitored CO 2 levels are indispensable in the NICU to protect the brain from intraventricular hemorrhage as well as properly implement lung protective ventilation strategies.
- Prevents blood loss and pain
tcPCO2 has been shown to reduce blood loss in mechanically ventilated neonates, while arterial and heel capillary blood gases – the accepted standard for PaCO information2 accurate – presence of critical problems in the NICU such as blood loss, infection and pain.
- Maintains skin integrity and longevity
Sentec’s low-temperature transdermal sensing technology allows up to 8 hours of procedure time in the NICU to support cluster care and is proven safe for newborns’ delicate skin
- Visibility beyond SpO 2
Oxygenation and ventilation are separate functions that require separate measurement. SpO 2 is insufficient to detect alveolar hypoventilation and may miss hypercapnia in patients using noninvasive ventilation (NIV).
- Potential for abnormal use including lung damage
Many patients in the Sleep Lab have respiratory disorders such as asthma, COPD, and OSA that cause CO 2 levels in their breath to be lower than in their blood, making the method of measuring end-tidal CO 2 (etCO 2 ) inaccurate. body. tcPCO 2, measured through the skin, provides a more accurate estimate of PaCO 2 than etCO 2 .
- Continuous for overnight data
In the split-night sleep study, disease status, patient compliance, and changes in patient support also altered the accuracy of the etCO 2 method.
etCO 2 raises more questions than it answers. tcPCO 2 is accurate regardless of ventilation method and provides consistent data from a full night sleep study.
- Compatibility with or without a mask
For patients using BiPAP, etCO 2 cannot differentiate between exhaled air, air entering the mask through the air valve, and air from respiratory support devices. Because the tcPCO 2 monitors independently of the ventilation method, mask and gas mixing issues do not affect accuracy.
- Accurate toxicity in many different patient groups
tcPCO2 has been proven safe for monitoring patients with the most delicate skin and has proven more accurate than etCO2 in patients commonly encountered in the Sleep Lab: children, adults, and inpatients potentially suffering from ventilation-perfusion mismatch diseases (COPD, Asthma, OSA).
